Our Organization

Founded in 1993, The Northern California Children’s Therapy Center (CTC) is a nonprofit organization (501(c)(3) – Tax ID Number: FIN 68-0309705) with a volunteer Board of Directors and many volunteers, including parents. CTC provides a multidisciplinary program of continuing physical, occupational and speech and language therapy for infants, toddlers, and children through adolescent age. Children’s Therapy Center has served thousands of children with all types of special needs, various types of disabilities and birth defects. Including cerebral palsy, autism, spina bifida, developmental/learning delays, cleft palate, severe speech and/or feeding disorders, Down’s syndrome, orthopedic or neuromuscular disorders and many other genetic, chromosomal, and/or psychological disorders. We serve children and infants in our well-equipped center as well as in the home and in schools. CTC’s services are available to all children in our community regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

When CTC was founded, two therapists and 26 families, all frustrated by the lack of adequate therapy services and insurance reimbursements for the intensive therapy that their children needed to learn to walk, talk, eat and care for themselves, made a partnership. The therapists agreed to give the highest level of therapy to children so they could develop to their maximum potential, regardless of the limitations set forth by funding agencies. The parents agreed to donate time and help fundraise to fill the gap between available reimbursements for therapy (if any) and the actual cost of providing the service. This partnership has remained the heart of CTC. CTC still depends on community donations to carry out our goal of serving any child in the area who needs therapy services, regardless of whether there is adequate reimbursement or the ability to pay for therapy. Today, CTC’s fifteen therapists and two infant specialists serve over 300 children a year, and referrals are increasing. Most of CTC’s clients are in Woodland, Davis, and Sacramento; others come from Elk Grove, Lodi, Winters, Arbuckle, Antelope, West Sacramento, Vacaville, Colusa, and as far away as Napa County.

Many children are under-funded or do not have any funding for intervention. That is why fund raising, community support, sponsorships and grants are so essential. CTC keeps very low overhead so donated funds go directly to helping children in need. Plus, volunteers help us stretch every dollar. The children we serve come all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our clinic, on Main Street in Woodland, that is equipped with state-of-the-art pediatric therapy equipment thanks to significant funding from community contributions, in-kind gifts and grants. The Center’s therapy rooms are equipped with many colorful toys, bolsters, pads, balls, parallel bars and swings, all to make therapy seem more like play to infants and children. When CTC a therapist makes in-home/community visits, they bring toys, bolsters, balls and colorful therapy aids with them to enhance therapy in the child’s natural learning environment. The children who receive physical, occupational and speech/language therapy often think that CTC is just a wonderful playground with their therapists as new friends and playmates. This is our goal, to make learning fun while making life-changing impacts. Because no child should go through life with a disability that could be aided or prevented through early intervention.
