Northern California Children’s Therapy Center (CTC) seeks 2-3 volunteer Board members to serve a two year term beginning in December of 2018. CTC is a 501c(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization established to ensure that no child should go through life with a disability that could be prevented through early intervention.
The board of directors is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization. To that end it:
- Determines how the organization will carry out its mission through long and short-range planning
- Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight
- Recruits, orients, and develops board members
- Hires and evaluates the performance of the executive director
- Evaluates its performance and overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission
- Establishes the governance structure by adopting policies which govern CTC
- Demonstrates community leadership
Responsibilities:
- Understand and promote the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings and appropriate committee meetings
- Actively serve on at least one committee and offer to take on special assignments
- Make an annual financial contribution to the organization commensurate with ability
- Participate in fundraising activities and special events
- Strictly adhere to conflict of interest policies
- Strictly adhere to confidentiality policies
Time Demands (approximate):
- Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings (11 monthly board meetings, approximately 2 hours in length, on the 3rd Monday of the month, except December)
- Attend and actively participate in committee meetings and related work (1-3 hours per month as determined by the committee)
- Attend and actively participate in special meetings and the annual meeting (approx. 3-4 hours)
- Attend special events such as fundraisers (approximately 5 hours)
- Attend new board member orientation (approximately 1-2 hours)
- Meet with potential donors/funders to make a case for funding the organization, answer questions, solicit donations for the auction, etc. (approx. 6 hours annually)
Financial and Resource Development Expectations:
- Give a meaningful personal financial donation to the organization each year commensurate to your circumstances (in order to achieve 100% board giving)
- Sell tickets to fundraising events
- Recruit sponsors, as needed
- Identify and cultivate potential donors
